Classes meet from 9:30 – 10:30 in the Undercroft. Here is the Winter/Spring Schedule:
WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR? – January 7, 14, 21 and Feb. 4
The answer to this question is far more complicated than just the last Good Samaritan sermon you heard! Come and examine that text and the Old Testament Laws that went before it, as well as the complexities of a worldwide vision of neighborhood. See why our Southeastern District has called its mission campaign “I-Neighborhood.” Class taught by Pastor Lehrer.
THE CANON OF SCRIPTURE – February 11, 18, 25
Come find out how and why the books of the Bible became the authoritative scripture for the Christian Church. This three-Sunday class will address the canon of the Old Testament, the New Testament and variations of the canon among denominations, especially highlighting Martin Luther’s canonical theology. Class taught by Mark Behrens.
“WEARING GOD”— March 4, 11, 18
What do friend, clothing, 氣味, bread and vine, laboring woman, laughter and flame have in common? They are all metaphors that scripture uses to reveal something about God. Based on the book “Wearing God” by Lauren Winner, we will examine scriptural metaphors for God, some familiar, some less so, and reflect how these images can draw us into a richer relationship with God and with each other. Class taught by Melissa Hecht.
THE STORY OF JESUS THROUGH MASTERPIECES OF ART – 三月 25日
An illustrated talk presents a survey of major art works depicting Jesus and his life by great masters of European art, including da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Durer, Cranach, Grunewald, van Eyck, El Greco and Rembrandt. This session, which emphasizes historical context, style, iconography and symbolism, helps sets the stage for a TOUR OF THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART in the afternoon. Please sign up in advance (see separate sheet) for lunch and carpool. Lunch will be provided for a freewill offering at 12:15 in the Undercroft. Carpools will leave at 1:00 for the Gallery, West Building. Class and Tour led by Karin Frenze, Art Historian.
