For Youth

Our teens 7th grade- 12th grade meet for Sunday School every other week at 9:15 am in person at church and the opposite Monday evenings for Bible Study and games on Zoom. We hold other regular gatherings for fellowship, fun, games and service toward others. Email the church office here for more information on how to connect.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

For Youth

St. Paul’s youth ministry is for rising 7th to 12th graders.  The ministry is supported by our Youth Director, Youth Board and volunteers.

Confirmation in the Lutheran Church is…

  1. an educational ministry, and
  2. an opportunity to make a public confession of faith in Christ.

Confirmation helps fulfill Jesus’ commands to make disciples by baptizing and teaching (Matthew 28:19-20) and to acknowledge our faith before others (Matthew 10:32-33).

Those seeking confirmation as a youth participate in a two-year period of instruction.  The classes are held every-other Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. during the school year and are taught by our pastor.  Students typically begin when starting seventh grade, although older students are also welcome. The first year of the curriculum focuses on the Bible with reference to the Catechism.  The second year focuses on the Catechism with reference to the Bible. The two years of instruction culminate in a Confirmation Day celebration on the first Sunday of May.

Confirmation is highly esteemed in the Lutheran Church.  St. Paul’s displays all of its class pictures on the back wall of the Sanctuary.

For further information on Youth Confirmation, contact the church office or speak to one of our pastors.

7th – 12th Graders join in Biblical studies, meaningful discussions and real life application opportunities in a welcoming close knit community. We meet from 9:30am – 10:30 am each Sunday morning during the school year. Join us as we live life together.

Children of St. Paul’s members are eligible to take First Communion prior to Confirmation classes starting in the 5th grade.  The decision to take these classes for communion preparation or wait until Youth Confirmation should be made jointly by parents, child and pastor.  Classes are typically held on Sunday afternoons during the season of Lent and are taught by the pastor.  A parent is required to attend the classes with the child.

Please contact the church office or a pastor for more information or to express your interest.

St. Paul’s teens gather regularly for extra times of fellowship, fun, service and growth. We consider ourselves a church family with room for you to join us! We love to learn about Christ, have good clean fun, laugh and serve others. Knowing we are saved by grace, we strive to share the love of Christ as we live life out loud.”

For Children

St. Paul’s offers Sunday School classes from 9:15-10:15 AM each Sunday during the school academic year for ages 3 through high school.  Classes are held in the church’s Education building. Classes for ages PK-6th grade use Concordia Publishing House’s “Enduring Faith” curriculum, which is designed to teach the same weekly lesson to all ages through age-appropriate activities.

During Sunday School, teachers and children (up through 6th grade) gather in room #9 for the first 15 minutes to sing songs and hear an opening message that introduces the lesson. They then go to their individual classrooms for hands-on crafts and activities. The children explore the Bible while making connections to how the messages apply today and how God reveals His continual presence and care in our lives. The fall curriculum (September-November) covers lessons in the Old Testament, and the winter (December-February) and spring (March-May) curricula cover lessons in the New Testament.

The Sunday School staff and the church’s Board of Education provide on-going support for parents and children, such as organizing the annual children’s Christmas program, and hosting an end of the school year celebration. On the first Sunday in the academic year and selected Sundays during the year, children participate in intergenerational Sunday School sessions in lieu of individual classes to study together and share an activity, such as wreath making at the start of the Advent season.

For more information on St. Paul’s Sunday School program, contact Linda Berg, St. Paul’s Sunday School Administrator, at bergs@rcn.com.  To register your child for Sunday School, please download and fill out the Sunday School registration form and e-mail your completed form to the St. Paul’s office.

Lutheran Schools have a long history of caring and excellence. Our desire to educate is combined with our belief that children should find joy in exploring and discovering the wonderful world God has created for them. We believe in educating the whole child through play, encouraging not only intellectual and social growth but spiritual growth, as well. As we bridge the gap from home to school, we guide children to a continued good self-image and seek to minister to both children and families.

Preschool children learn more about our loving God through Bible stories and songs. Children can express their faith and learn the blessing of worship in a weekly chapel service. Creativity abounds during weekly music class and daily arts and crafts that develop fine motor skills. Children develop gross motor skills and coordination during free play on our playground. In class, children develop and hone cognitive skills through:

  • Learning centers
  • Pre-math
  • Pre-reading
  • Social studies
  • Science projects
  • Free play

St. Paul’s Preschool Director and teachers hold a BS in Early Childhood Education or related discipline, and meet or exceed Virginia state licensing qualifications. The staff completes 16 hours of Continuing Education hours yearly.  All teachers are certified in First Aid and CPR.
