This past Sunday, we learned more about John. The children discussed his role in leading the way for Jesus and teaching the Pharisees and Sadducees that they do not earn heaven by being descendants of Abraham (Matthew 3:1-12; John 1:29-34). They also heard about John’s life in the wilderness, including his wearing camel’s hair clothing and a leather belt, and his diet of locusts and wild honey.
In the first-second grade classroom, the children learned the word “heir” and how through Jesus we are heirs to heaven. In the pre-K/Kindergarten classroom, the children worked on a project to decorate a picture of a dove with feathers to remind them of the dove that descended when John baptized Jesus.
Next Sunday, we discuss Jesus calling the first disciples.
