St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is an American church with a Chinese congregation. Some American members have been serving the community, especially the Chinese community, by volunteering to teach ESL classes. Now, there are three classes with verbal practice emphasis from 1 to 2 p.m. every Sunday in the church’s education building. We also have conversational partner programs when teachers are available.
- Beginners class: The teacher, Mr. Todd Thurwatcher, is fluent in both English and Chinese.
- Intermediate class: The teacher is Ms. Barbara Easterly whose speech is slow and clear, allowing students to easily follow along and learn. She teaches English for everyday life scenarios.
- Advanced class: Mr. Merle Whitz is very knowledgeable. He can teach on various subjects to broaden students’ knowledge about America and its culture, history and politics.
